Known for his passion and vision for Mars colonization, he founded the Mars Society in 1998 to promote and advance the human exploration of Mars. Zubrin developed the "Mars Direct" plan, an influential, cost-effective strategy to send humans to Mars using in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) to produce fuel on Mars for the return journey. He has written several books on space exploration, including The Case for Mars, which argues for Mars as humanity’s next frontier. Zubrin is recognized as a thought leader in space policy and exploration strategies, often challenging traditional, conservative approaches in favor of bold, innovative missions.
